Enterprise Lithuania signed a cooperation and support agreement today in Klaipėda with Baltic Tech Park on the creation of a Spiečius coworking space in the port city. Catering to Klaipėda’s small businesses, Spiečius is expected to open its doors at Baltic Tech Park, which is currently under construction, in May of next year.
“Klaipėda continues to be one of the mainstays of the Lithuanian economy, and the city’s strength lies in the community’s ability to create a growing economy. However, in order for the economy of the city and Lithuania as a whole to continue to prosper, the success of corporate giants is not the only thing that is important – small and medium businesses must also have their place. Therefore, projects that promote entrepreneurship among Klaipėda locals and help small businesses implement their ideas and boldly move forward while also uniting the forces of the public and private sectors are more than welcome,” says Klaipėda Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas.
“We are open to sharing coworking space development experience and intellectual and human resources, and we are pleased by the initiative of Klaipėda’s businesses and local self-government to establish such an unconventional active business space in the city,” says Enterprise Lithuania Entrepreneurship Department Director Gytis Morkūnas.
According to Mr Morkūnas, the Spiečius coworking space should open in Klaipėda in May of next year. “We hope that in the coming years, Spiečius will bring small businesses together in other regions as well – talks are already under way on the establishment of coworking spaces in Tauragė and Panevėžys,” he says.
VšĮ Baltijos Technologijų Parkas Chairman of the Board Šarūnas Butkus notes that Baltic Tech Park, which is currently being developed in Klaipėda, aims to create a modern space that promotes entrepreneurship and cooperation, where an innovation- and export-oriented community can create and commercialise its ideas and receive the necessary assistance and support. A coworking space of approximately 1,000 m2 featuring flexible work areas, rest zones, and various business support services will be built on the grounds of the former Klaipėda Plywood Factory at Liepų St. 83. Enterprise Lithuania’s Spiečius coworking space will occupy approximately 100 m2 of the building.
Baltic Tech Park has agreed to provide and equip the premises needed for the Spiečius coworking space free of charge, thus providing support in the form of lease valued at approximately EUR 10,000 per year. Enterprise Lithuania will make a contribution by maintaining the premises, creating workplaces, and ensuring the promotion of entrepreneurship in Klaipėda. It is estimated that this will cost Enterprise Lithuania approximately EUR 30,000 per year. The cooperation agreement was signed for a five-year period, until the end of 2022.
